Somehow It's that time of year again! December is here and it's time to wrap up the year.
So, keeping in tradition we've once again reached out to our friends and their roster at etcetc for our last featured artist of the year – following their signees Kilter, Set Mo and Klue we now present to you our Palais!
This is a fairly new signing to etcetc and you might not yet be fully familiar with the Palais name, but I can bet you would of heard his prior namealong your musical journey 'PALACE'. From our talk with him earlier in the week, he has just recently made a slight change after a little bit of confusion/mistaken identity, but you'll able to expect the same direction and quality tuuuunes to continue on.
Alongside signing with the etcetc fam and their ever growing roster we've also seen Palais just come off the back of festivals like Disconnect and Castaway, as well as having two of his latest releases (Can't Stop, Too Young) clock up a half a million spins each on Spotify! (not to mention support from DJ Craze, Vanilla Ace and Justin Martin) You can expect a brand new EP entitled 'Apolis' hitting us very soon in the new year and right now he has a release on etcetc's 'Yearbook Compilation' that came out only last week, alongside other artist's like Paces, LDRU & Flamingo (check it out here).
To help get to know Palais a little bit better, we through a few quick questions at him earlier in the week.
FIRST OF ALL, HOW DID YOU CHOOSE TO USE YOUR TO USE YOUR 30 MINS?
It's 40 degrees here today so I tried to make it the perfect Summer mix with a couple of belters at the end. Snuck in a couple of unreleased tracks too!
HOW LONG HAVE U BEEN DOING WHAT YOU DO?
I've had Ableton on my computer since the end of highschool, but I think I only really started making music when I was 20, so I guess about 5 years? U REMEMBER WHAT SWUNG YOU TOWARDS ELECTRONIC MUSIC?I started off with Skitzmix in primary school haha, then in high school I got into punk and hardcore through bodyboarding and I thought electronic music was pretty lame. When I was 16 my friend Gabe showed me the Justice 'A Cross The Universe' film which pretty much changed my life.
WHAT'S THE GAME PLAN FOR THE REST OF 2016?
Party, eat lots of food and a few DJ sets around the place. Also jumping into studio with friends to write some new music now the EP is done :)
WHAT BROUGHT ON THIS RECENT NAME CHANGE? My friends kept messaging me photos of people wearing the Palace skateboards brand thinking it was my merch which got a bit annoying and also I kept getting mixed up in social media with the UK band Palace, so I just decided this was right. Definitely stoked with the name change though.
HOW YOU COME TO WORKING WITH THE ETCETC LABEL? A friend of mine organised a couple of shows for me in Sydney and while I was over there I took some meetings and I just really clicked with the guys at etcetc so it was a no-brainer to sign with them.
THE WHOLE AUSSIE SCENE IS GROWING BY THE MIN, SO MANY GEMS OUT THERE NOW. SO, WHO WOULD YOU PICK IF YOU COULD COLAB WITH ONE AUSSIE ACT IN 17? I'd love to work with Jess Kent, she is super unique and her music has great energy. I think her best music is still ahead of her too.
& WHAT ABOUT ONE HOT TIP, ONE ACT THATS ABOUT TO POP?THE NEXT BIG THING? My hot tip is me stay woke fam.
LASTLY, HOPE THIS IS NOT TO PERSONAL, BUT IF YOU HAD TO PICK ONE, AVO'S OR MANGOES FOR REST OF YOUR LIFE WHERE WOULD YOUR ALLEGIANCE LAY? Mangoes all day every day.
