This month we’re stoked to feature a local trio making a return to the Australian music scene. For our March feature artist, please let us introduce ‘THE NIGHTS‘.
After the success of their debut After Hours EP, The Nights took time-off to write and prepare their live show. But, they’re backkkk …. with some cracking new singles. It looks to be a strong return, kicking things off by having their latest single ‘Other Issues’ premiered on Nest HQ. Since then the track has been on high rotation on Triple J, even catching the attention and praise of Dom Alessio, Dave Ruby Howe and Zan Rowe.
We’re definitely not the only media outlet taking interest in this outfit, with the boys also gaining support from the likes of Purple Sneakers, Stoney Roads & In The Mix.
It’s not a surprise the trio have been able to make magic together when you hear how creative and reputable each member’s background story is. Tom, is ex-member of Future Classic outfit PANAMA, Music Director for various Australian acts and is currently completing a Masters degree in Electronic Composition at The Conservatorium of Music. Walter is a Creative Director/producer whose creative vision is seen through every aspect of this project. Rob was previously the General Manager of the Ableton Liveschool and is now undertaking his BA in Contemporary Composition at The Conservatorium of Music. All this, alongside their new material really leads us to believe these guys are gonna be an unstoppable force we have to keep an eye on. They have their upcoming EP lined-up and set for April!
So, we, of course, wanted to throw a few fast Q’s to the boys, to get to know them a little bit better…
HOW HAVE YOU CHOSEN TO USE YOUR 30 MINS IN THIS MIX:
We’ve tried to give you a taste of the mood and energy you can expect from our upcoming live shows.
HOW DID THE NIGHTS COME TOGETHER? We met at Liveschool a few years ago and bonded over similar music taste and the desire to do something different and exciting in the Electronic Music space.
WHAT SWUNG YOU INTO ELECTRONIC MUSIC? Even though we play electronic music, we are inspired and love all types. But like Nina Simone said: “An Artist’s duty is to reflect the times” and we feel electronic music is the best way we currently have to express our creative ideas and make an impact on the era that we live in.
HOW DO YOU BEST DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND? Music for lovers and dancers.
WHAT’S THE GAME PLAN FOR 2017? We’ve got a lot on our plate, firstly we’re releasing a three-track-EP in April, then debuting our new live show and touring it extensively throughout the year.
THE AUSSIE SCENE IS GROWING BY THE MINUTE. IF YOU COULD PICK ANY AUSSIE ACT TO COLAB WITH WHO WOULD IT BE?
We’d love to colab with the Steve Spacek or/and Dreems.
…AND WHAT ABOUT ONE ACT YOU THINK IS ABOUT TO POP?
The enigmatic Sam Weston. Do yourself a favour and listen to his Shiraz Voyager EP.
LASTLY, HOPE THIS IS NOT TOO PERSONAL, BUT IF YOU HAD TO PICK ONE, AVOCADOS OR MANGOES FOR REST OF YOUR LIFE. WHERE WOULD YOUR ALLEGIANCE LAY? Avocado is like Wifey. It warms your soul and nurtures you… Mango is like that seductive temptress that blows your mind but you can only take in small doses :P
