And we’re back, For June we are stoked to of secured a duo from Melbourne that we’ve been following for some time. Finally, the time has come to get them as featured artist of the month, please welcome up next to the plate ‘Two Can‘.
The multi-instrumental brothers have been making some strong strides over the last 2 years, from remixing the likes of Jonas Blue & Carmada, to finding their original works on rotation with Tripple J Radio. The boys are also up to nearly 10 million plays online and have been landing some serious shows, playing festivals like Your Paradise and Groovin The Moo.
We, of course, wanted to ask some generic, yet essential questions to get to know Two Can a little better. See what they had to say below the mix.
First of all, what have you gone for/how have you chosen to use your 30 mins for this mixtape? In the mix we have included a lot of remixes of our originals being ‘Holding On To You’ and ‘Outta Here’. The NEUS remix was one of our favourites and had a really driving element to it so wanted to showcase the strength of that remix as well as the brand new remix by JAMO for Outta here (opening track). We also put some tunes we vibe on like Tensnake, LDRU and Wilfred Giroux. Also a few of our own remixes in there including our remix for Two Friends.
How long have you been doing what you do? We both started producing around the time we were in year 10 at high school! We were already taking music subjects, with Oscar doing Jazz and Me (Myles) taking up production. The DJ’ing came a bit later when a friend of ours invited us over and he had a new pair of CDJ 900’s. Soon after that we got our own and started mucking around learning to mix the music we had produced which was really fun. We were producers and instrumentalist before DJ’s though and we’ve pushed towards a more interactive live set in the recent months.
What swung you into electronic music? We actually started off producing electro house, dubstep, progressive house when we started producing music. I think blogs like EarMilk, Whomping Stereo, iCanGiveYouHouse and many more got our spidey senses in tune with different types of electronic music out there.
How would you best describe your sound? Our sound isn’t one genre or anything, across our originals and remixes we just aim to keep a consistent groove and vibe in all our productions that represents what we’re feeling. We’ve developed our sound from where it was 1 year ago to a more live and organic feel which has fit in with us moving away from DJ sets and we expect it to have evolved further but this time next year. Experimentation is key for us!
What’s the game plan for the rest of 2017? We have got some tour plans being worked on at the moment which will see us on the road with the live show, a couple of new records we’re polishing up at the moment. In addition, we’ve just locked in a remix for Swedish duo Cazzette and another on Warner Music in UK!
The whole Aussie scene is growing by the min, so many gems out there now. So, if you could pick any other Aussie to collab with this year, who would it be? Yeah Australia is doing amazing things in the music scene at the moment. its quite amazing how many amazing producers, singers, bands, DJ’s are in the scene now and doing such different and diverse things. It’s truely inspiring. As for someone we would love to collaborate with, we would want them to be someone extremely different from what we do. I love it how Linkin Park collaborates with like rappers like Jay-Z the genre fusion is just awesome. I reckon collaborating with a band like The Kite String Tangle, SAFIA, Vallis Alps or New Navy would be so rad. It truely would be a collaboration of style then we feel!
PS if anyone from those bands are reading this, let’s make it happen ;)
& what about one hot tip, one act you think is about to pop & will be the next big thing? This guy I met the other week through a mate, is absolutely doing rad things, his project names are JAMO and Sex Wax. He is about to release an EP which is seriously something special. Give him a listen.
Lastly, hope this is not to personal, but if you had to pick one, avo’s or mangoes for rest of your life where would your allegiance lay? Oh damn, this question is testing to the very morals we stand by. I do think mangoes are top notch, but I did just have a superb smashed avocado and Poached Eggs on sour dough breakfast and the memories from that moment just before is the reason I have to say Avocados, my allegiance lays with them.
