For this month’s featured artist, please welcome to the stage Sydney DJ and Producer Jesse Porsches. The chances are you’ve probably already heard of his other projects, Jesse has joined forces with Adelaide’s Tigerilla for a Duo called ‘Super Cruel‘ which has gained a lot of attention for their track November, featuring Lisa Mitchell. And of course, who could forget Porsches! Their track ‘Horses‘ was one we definitely haven’t forgotten from 2015, they also went on to land some big shows, performing live sets at festivals like Splendour In The Grass and Beyond The Valley.
Jesse has now decided to take the solo path and has huge success in kicking things off already. Let’s start with a big debut single which has just been accompanied with a new film clip and tour dates!
The lead track ‘The Weekend‘ is a very lively, catchy summer anthem where we see Jesse team up with Sydney singer-songwriter Xavier Dunnon for vocal duties. In other HUGE news, Jesse Porsches has just signed a bunch of label deals! In Australia/NZ he has signed on the dotted line with Dew Process/UMA, alongside artists like Tkay Maidza, Ecca Vandal and London Grammar. He has also signed with Island Records UK as well as NYC based record label Astralwerks, which is home to The Avalanches, Halsey, Empire of the Sun, The Chemical Brothers and Alison Wonderland.
This kid is blowing up and he only just got started! We of course threw some quick fire questions at him earlier in the week, to try and get to know him a little better and of course, The Monthly Mix! He was indeed kind enough to put together a really fun mix for this edition. Tour dates and Tracklisting below.
What have you went for & how have you chosen to use your 30 mins in this mix? The mix is a selection of songs that I have produced, remixed and tracks I am vibing at the moment.
How long have you been doing what you do? Producing for two years solidly, Djing for five years now.
What swung you into electronic music? The early electronic artist really paved the way for me, Artist like Digitalism, Justice, MSTRKRFT were really influential when I was young and inspired me to start making my own stuff.
Most people don’t know, but Co-wrote Sleepless? I did! maybe one of my most proudest moments is co-writing Flume’s “Sleepless” and receiving a gold record from it. Constantly pushing the envelope however so it’s sometimes hard to sit back and be proud of the work that is going into this.
How do you best describe your sound? Somewhere between Diplo and Cashmere Cat.
What’s the game plan for the new 2017? Just released my single “the weekend” and currently touring it. Shooting a music video this week for next single with my other project “Super Cruel”. I want to get over to the states as soon as I can for writing.
The whole Aussie scene is growing by the min, so many gems out there now. So, if you could pick any other Aussie to collab with in 17, who would it be? KUCKA + GEORGE MAPLE would be my picks!
What about one hot tip, one act you think is about to pop & will be the next big thing? Mall Rat, Tigerilla Super Cruel are going to be huge
Lastly, hope this is not too personal, but if you had to pick one, avo’s or mangoes for rest of your life where would your allegiance lay? I am allergic to Avo so that’s an easy one!
